Good Friday.
“Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). There they crucified him, and with him two others—one on each side and Jesus in the middle.” - John 19:17-18
What makes Good Friday good? It was not good for Jesus. Crucifixion was arguably the most excruciating form of capital punishment in the history of our world. Add to this that God turned His back on Jesus, He poured out the full extent of His wrath on Jesus, and the masses (both Jew and Gentile) mocked Jesus.
It was what Jesus accomplished that makes Good Friday good. Hebrews 9:26 says, “He has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.” Jesus did away with sin with one sacrifice for all time and all people who believe is His lordship and salvation.
Good Friday is good because sin has met its match in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. It no longer has the potency it once did. We are set free from its bondage, rescued from its resulting death, and given true relationship with God in love.
Thank you Jesus for the cross.
