God and the Federal Election.

“So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” - Matthew 22:21

It is soon time to vote again. I am not, nor will I ever, tell people how to vote. But I will say this: No matter who you vote for and which leader becomes our next leader, no such leader is sovereign. Your first allegiance needs to be to God alone.

Jesus taught that we give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s. What exactly do we give to God? Worship, adoration, devotion, allegiance, and thanksgiving is our heart posture. We pray for the coming of God’s kingdom and the fulfillment of God’s will as our active response. We give God honor and glory for His eternal wisdom and reign.

And what do we give to “Caesar”? We give our prayers, our ability to abide by the law (so long as it is not contrary to God’s revelation and will), our submission to his reign under the authority of Jesus, and our ability to vote in the best interest of God’s purposes being worked out on the earth.
