The Wonder of the Word.
“‘You do not want to leave too, do you?’ Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.’” - John 6:67-68
These words came on the heels of some of the hardest teachings from Jesus. Many followers of Jesus walked away. When Jesus asked the twelve if they wanted to leave too, Peter spoke for them and asked, “To whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
Powerful! The words of eternal life. Is that how we engage God’s word? Is the Word of God to us divine, life-giving, and true? Do we seek to handle it with the reverence it deserves? Is it more than just words on a page, but so much more - the voice of Jesus Himself?
You see, John 1 calls Jesus “the Word.” The Word is more than the Scriptures - It is breathed out by God the Father, it is the person of Jesus Christ, and it is a powerful sword in the hands of God’s Spirit.
To whom else can we go? No one. Only with the Triune God and His Word do we find eternal life.
